We Cannot Afford the Luxury
Currently, some leaders are willing and ready to sign The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. One such leader has guaranteed that the treaty will be signed during the upcoming session. Such an action would be disastrous for parents who believe they have first right to direct the upbringing up their children.
There are still some good leaders out there. On this issue, unfortunately, none of mine are among them. I will be working to change that through contact via phone, email, and snail mail. I hope you will check to see, via www.parentalrights.org, if your House and Senate Representatives are among them. If you live in Virginia (most of my family does), I can tell you right now that your Senators are NOT among the sponsors of the Parental Rights Amendment. Why do we need such a thing? Please DO read about it.
I'm sure there is more I should address. There is SO much TO address. I'm just worn out from my puny efforts to share news. Some of which has been negatively received, which is never easy. Father never said it would be easy. And it surely is not.
On The Personal Front
So... what's new? Well... and this may seem pretty random to most of you, but I want to apologize to my sister-in-law: Anni, I'm sorry. I really am sorry.
In other news...
Tea
Wow... this little girl is basically walking, but a scardy-cat. Jess told me a few nights ago that she ran across the bottom of the bed (feet on the floor, hands on the bed). This was not news to me, but it was the first time he saw it for himself. Now he believes me! So, yes, she is basically running as well as walking. She's starting to test out her "hands free" balancing more and more, but she's still a scardy-cat even in that respect. It's really funny to see her knowingly LET GO and then either grab whatever she just release in a sort of "I'm FALLING" snatch OR plop herself onto her butt.
She's still nursing strong. I hope it will continue into the future. She's also eating a lot more from the things we eat for meals. Unfortunately, much is off limits because our foods often have nuts, but she LOVES what I allow her. Her favorites still seem to be butternut squash (with salt and butter), figs (we were treated to some of these lucious fruits by Mom and Dad Gollihugh! YUM!!!), and bananas. But she's tried basically everything I eat now. And she has LOVED almost all of it.
While our family was visiting, Tea started making a LOT more jokes! She has the funniest, cutest little "I'm going to get you" laugh! Her Pop and Mema got to experience her sweet funny little laugh. What a pleasure!
Tea's jokes are often involve 'bothering' her sisters. For instance, during our family's time here (and for a few nights since their departure) our girls have slept in Mama and Daddy's room. Ria has been on the floor on sleeping bags. Well, Tea has crawled over there (when Ria was awake AND not) giggling her little "I'm going to get you" laugh and then head-butted or otherwise 'tormented' Ria. When Ria was awake, Ria intereacted a little with Tea and they ended up going back and forth in some silly giggles. When Ria was asleep, Tea would try a few times to get Ria to interact and then give up and try Kat (who was sleeping in the crib in our room). It was REALLY funny to watch!
Oh, and the head-butting thing comes from Jessie's play with Tea. He'll push her over with his head when they play. Or he'll rub his bristly short hair on her belly to make her laugh. So, of course, she does the same thing when trying to play with others. Though, I don't think I've seen her specifically try to rub her head on anyone's belly yet. That'll be a hoot, though, if she does!
Kat
Have I mentioned that she pesters me to "do school"? I love it, of course. She is determined to read. I asked her a while ago if she wanted to, but she wasn't into it. Probably nigh on a year ago now and she didn't want to, but more recently, she told me she DID want to learn how to read. So we started in the book I've mentioned before (How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons) and she's currently on lesson 17. Can you believe it? She's amazing! The going is slow because we are working for mastery, but she's excited about it every day. What a joy!
Because Ria decided she wanted to start Spanish, Kat is totally into it, too. (Of course!) So, when we "do Math" we work on Spanish counting as well. Kat basically has it down (1-5, which are the numbers we've been REALLY focusing on... because I want to know that she understands that each number represents a value, not just counting numbers) and almost through ten (in Spanish, she can count to 20 in English). Amazing. (But of course I would think so!)
Kat is WAY into coloring. She's in a monochromatic phase, for the most part. She'll color everything, or almost everything, on one side of the page in one color. While she doesn't strive to stay inside the lines of the internal parts of a picture, she DOES almost stay inside the outer lines of any given part of the whole! I've also noticed, when she does use more than one color, that she has a natural tendency to choose complimentary colors (opposites on the color wheel that heighten the intensity of the other when placed next to one another... just in case you weren't sure). What an eye on my Kat, right?!
Kat LOVED having our family visit!! She especially loved the trips to the beach with everyone. It was such a pleasure to see her loving her Mema and Pop SO well! She was very sad that they left and has asked much about them since their departure on Wednesday afternoon.
Ria
Our eldest daughter was DISTRAUGHT when she realized her cousins were gone and not coming back, which happened earlier than initially planned! She cried inconsolably for quite a while. It was heart-breaking for Jess and me. So, she obviously loved having her cousins here to visit. It was a pleasure to see how much they really did seem to enjoy one another!
Ria also loved having her Pop and Mema visit. When Jess asked (the first time) what her favorite part of having them visit was she thought for a few moments and then replied, "Holding their hands." Of course, Kat's response was the same. ^_^ We loved having all of the Gollihughs here to visit for the short time they were. We hope it will happen again much sooner than later!
Subsequent questions about what the favorite part of the visit was brought up answers like, "Going to the beach," and "Playing the game," and "Going to eat at Daddy's work". The last one Mema and Pop treated us to the first night they made their presence known.
Ria is regularly working on piano. She's still reading lots. Of all the things she does when she doesn't HAVE to do something, reading is the most regularly occurring activity. For "school" she is almost through all of the Narnia series. She's finished the Little House on the Prairie series, but I just found a book by Laura's daughter that Ria will read soon. She's read the first 3 Nancy Drew books and the first 2 of the Mandie books (really great Historical Fiction). Unfortunately, Ria is still resistant about "doing school", but thankfully she really gets into most of it once she's done complaining.
Ria will be starting History, Science, and officially doing Spanish once we receive the items for those subjects (I do have to order them first... on the TO DO for Monday). I'll be using my allowance. That use of "my money" is totally worth it, of course, but the selfish part of me does wish I could spend it on something for me (like save it to make a trip to VA... which, Mema and Pop generously contributed to!!! or something JUST for me). I have been feeling more okay with 'always' spending what was intended as allowance for me on things for the girls and/or our family because I think it's just my time for that. Ya know? After I "cover" the expense of those, (it's going to take a little more than 2 months of "my allowance" to pay for the items mentioned above) I'll purchase a Language Arts and Character Development curriculum... hopefully by December. That'll be another 2 months of allowance. *sigh* If only the taxes we paid "for" public schools we don't use could be kept in out own account. It would be that much easier to fund this difficult enterprise (homeschooling). I would surely give it up (especially with all the difficulty I've faced with Ria) if I didn't know Father directed our path in this as well as other difficult choices.
Jess
Talk about a happy guy! He was super happy to have his family visit. Sad his sister left early, but still enjoyed his Mom and Dad's presence. He was supportive and comforted me through the difficulty of an early departure, which was a tremendous blessing to me. He's a good man.
Did you know Jess was, basically, working as the General Manager for his restaurant? Yep. And he did a good job at it. Awesome, right? It was two weeks worth (three Sundays) of being the General Manager and he liked it, from all I could tell. It was a little more stress, but he handled it admirably.
Did you know Jess teaches a monthly Food Storage Food Preparation classes for my Ward? Yep. He's taught at least 6 classes now. I think it's been more, actually. His classes have been really well attended for the past couple/few months. The attendance has sort of peaked because members of the Stake have been attending. This last Tuesday, he had about 20 and the time before it was around 30 attendees. Awesome, right? He loves it. When he talks about it, he says that he hopes he is able to reinforce the importance of having AND using food storage. I'm so glad!
Me
I'm still feeling a lot of urgency to share the political stuff I learn about and know. Thus the messages easiest to access here, on my blog.
We've officially joined the main homeschooling group for our area, a homeschooling PE group, and a few Yahoo!Groups for homeschooling families (specifically LDS, I think). There's another local Yahoo!Group I can now join (since I know some of the members) and will do so soon. I also hope to and expect to sort of form another homeschool group that will not meet at a Church and will not be focused on Christianity. I learned that there is a desire among a number of families in the area (larger than my specific location) and that they would be willing to drive for it. Just hoping/trying to answer a need. Thankfully I will not be doing it alone. One of the homeschooling Mamas in my Ward will be working on it with me. WHAT a blessing!
I'm still trying to write as much as possible. Not able to do it much, but still trying.
Most of my "extra" time is spent reading ahead of Ria. I've got a few series lines up for her after she finishes those she's working on now. I received a few suggestions from my sister, Evelyn, that I wanted to pass along because they are particularly wonderful books. Goose Girl and Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale. I also did read Princess Academy and they are ALL wonderful. There are good messages and they are not "too heavy" either.
The house is not a total disaster area. I'm especially noting this because it has tended to be a total disaster after family visits. I'm SUPER happy it is not one right now and hopeful that I'll have it back to the sort of medium I've felt happy with lately. I'm still behind on dishes, but that tends to be the bane of my homemaking existence. ;) We all have one, I'm sure.
I'm often tired, but not in the way I used to be. I think that has a lot to do with SCD and trying to eat healthier these last 3+ months. I'm almost to 4, I think. My guts seem much healthier. WHAT a blessing!

Watch
And why not? The Deceiver and his Group: Gadianton know that the family is the foundation of the Society, so if they can undermine FAMILY, they will control the society. Of course, you already know I believe that TGG (The Gadianton Group) has a fall back plan. They know that if they can control people by means of that which they consume, they control the world. So, they are breaking apart the very foundations of Society (the world) and working to control us through complacency and fatigue.
Have I previously mentioned Weather Modification? How about fluoridated water? Well, if not the latter, then surely the former. They are certainly two prongs of the multi-pronged fork they have aimed at the majority (of the population)... another prong, of course, being control via food supply.
*sigh*
I feel such alarm. And I'm trying to do my part to take a STAND. Will you, too?
Do you?
There does not seem to be such a helpful sort of information source for the Senate, from what I can tell. BUT, you can go HERE to see "Active Legislation" there is going on and one column is for House and the other for Senate bills. Somewhat helpful.
Personal Update
This week has not been quiet. Tuesday I actually left the house with just the baby! We went to the library and grocery shopping. She sat in the cart seat for only the second time (but this time was a lot longer than the first). She LOVED it. She seemed to really enjoy having me all to herself, too. :) What a sweet girl our Tea is!
She is, amazingly, not walking without holding on to someone or something. She's a bit of a scaredy-cat. Like me. :( But she's standing without holding on to anything much more frequently. She CAN walk, she just won't because of the whole scaredy-cat thing.
Thursday we brought Jess to work so we would have the van to get to our Homeschool Group's Open House. That was really interesting and nice. I enjoyed being among many women/families I knew were making the same tough choice we have! I still felt quite alone most of the time... ah, well. I think it's very much related to the depression I've been tied up in since my Uncle left. Ugh. Let me tell you, this stuff is NO fun. A sweet sister, Jean, from church called me as I was on my way home. One of my earth Angels whispered to by God to remind me that though I may FEEL alone, I'm not really. She just wanted to make sure I was okay because I didn't seem myself at church on Sunday (4 days prior). How kind of her! One of the "small" miracles in my life.
We arrived home in enough time to get something to eat and for the girls to "do school" and play a little bit before it was time to get going to church for Ward Council. I'm really glad it's only once a month just because keeping the van is not easy AT ALL. Right after WC was done, we went to pick Jess up from work. Thankfully we didn't have to wait for him this time!
Another "small miracle" followed the very next day. Friday I believe I posted the link to an article I read that effected me tremendously. My friend Stacy called while I was reading it, I called her back after I finished it. I was very upset, she'd been calling initially to see if we'd like company. She and her 2 daughters came over for the evening. It was LOVELY!
Jessie's family is coming to visit on Monday. We're very excited about the visit. As with all such good stress, it is still stress... probably mostly for Mamas. I haven't been able to clean as I would like because of my focus on politics... but it's not a pig's sty, either. :)
Today is actually a "down" day and I will hopefully accomplish more in the house than I have heretofore accomplished. We'll see.
Life will get busier for us coming in the foreseeable future. We have homeschool activities, volunteer opportunities, and Church activities/responsibilities to see to and attend. So, September (particularly 1 week in that month) will be quite busy. That one week will require me to take Jess to work 3 days in a row. Can we say... "Tired children"? I think there will be some! But I'm excited to be more often among women who really understand the realities of homeschooling. I've been homeschooling more often than not for around 3+ years now, but it's been quite lonely. I look forward to the feeling of buoyancy I have already felt in knowing some women who've made the same choice Jess and I have! It has already been sweet relief to know a few and become good friends with at least one such lady. ^_^

More on the Gadianton Group Perhaps
Have YOU ever heard of weather modification? Want to read more? Click on the links in the two links I've included. I'm only beginning to inch along this new branch of the "young tree growing" which is my political awareness.
I'm even more deeply alarmed. And you?
What can we do??

Reconciliation?
Would you know what I'm talking about if I suggested that the Senate might go for reconciliation to push ObamaCare through? If not, PLEASE read or you can just keep scrolling down. I rarely ever include the whole of someone else's writing in my blog, but this is really important to understand why EVERYONE needs to STAND UP and SPEAK OUT! Make calls to our leaders.
Did you know that one call is equivalent to 12,999 constituents? That's what the peeps on Capitol Hill think. They figure that if one person calls there are around 13,000 others who think the same way. Let's tell them they will lose their livelihood if they don't represent us properly!
GOP Should Shut Down Senate If Dems Use Procedural Tactic to Ram Through Health-Care Bill, Says Conservative Leader
Thursday, August 20, 2009
By Pete Winn, Senior Writer/Editor
(CNSNews.com) – Conservative leader Gary Bauer warned Wednesday that Democratic leaders in Congress will try to ram through their unpopular health-care reform plan later this fall, employing a little-used tactic first conceived as a way to maneuver around the budget deficit battles of the 1980s.
“I’m afraid that they (Democratic leaders) will do it because I’m convinced that the people running America are intent on changing America in ways that will not be reversible,” Bauer told CNSNews.com.
The tactic, known as “reconciliation,” is designed to get around the filibuster, a Senate procedure used to prevent the majority from running roughshod over the minority.
“When you have a filibuster, it takes 60 Senate votes to pass something,” Bauer said. “The Democrats don’t have 60 votes that they can count on for the health-care bill, making reconciliation all the more likely,” Bauer said.
“It’s a little esoteric, but the bottom line is that they will be able to ram this through with just 51 votes,” Bauer added.
The controversial 1,000-page bill overhauling the nation's health-care system is currently before Congress, which remains in recess until September.
If liberal Democrats do force through the legislation over the significant objections of conservatives, the former Republican presidential candidate says the minority party should be prepared to shut down the Senate.
“The only remedy for this, is for the minority in Congress...to make it clear that if this is used on such a major piece of legislation, that the minority Republicans will literally shut down the Senate by using parliamentary maneuvers, and so forth--so that literally nothing else will pass this year and next, until there is another election,” Bauer, who is president of the group American Values, said.
“That would turn Washington into an even more partisan battleground, but it may be the only solution to the threat that’s being rumored right now,” Bauer added.
Reconciliation is an option that was created in the 1974 Congressional Budget Act to allow Congress a way out of intractable budget battles.
Wesleyan University government professor Elvin Lim said it was invented as a way to achieve a balanced budget--not to force through highly controversial legislation.
“It wasn’t passed to allow Congress to go ahead and do anything it wants, but as it turns out, that’s the way it’s been used, quite frankly, by both sides of the aisle,” Lim told CNSNews.com.
In fact, he said, President George W. Bush was the last to utilize the tactic--getting Congress to pass tax cuts three times in ‘01, ‘03 and ’05--because he wanted to bypass a Senate filibuster by Democrats.
The budget reconciliation process is a two-stage process. First, reconciliation “directives” must be included in the annual budget resolution. In fact, directives for the health-care reform bill were placed in the 2010 budget resolution, which was passed April 29.
If utilized for the health-care bill, House and Senate committees would be ordered to develop a final version of the legislation by a specific date (in this case, Oct. 15) to meet certain spending or revenue targets. The committees would then send their legislative recommendations to their respective budget committees, who would be tasked with packaging all recommendations into one omnibus reconciliation bill.
The resulting bill would be fast-tracked and sent to the floor of both chambers of Congress for debate. A 20-hour limit is placed on debate of any measure considered under the reconciliation process, which effectively strips the minority party of the filibustering option in the Senate.
“The bottom line here is that this reconciliation procedure allows the Senate to bypass its normal filibuster procedure of 60 votes--and instead only requires 51 votes for passage of bills,” Lim said.
That means the Democrats could pass health-care reform in the Senate with a simple majority.
Lim, however, said the procedure has a downside. Any measure passed under the reconciliation procedure will be “sunsetted”--meaning, it would automatically expire when it reaches a cutoff date.
“They may get what they want, but it’s only going to last 10 years, if they go the reconciliation route,” Lim said.
In fact, Lim said Democrats are counting on having the 10 years to sell the public that their health-care reform doesn’t mean that the system is going to fall apart.
“If Americans are happy with the health care, and health-care costs go down, as Democrats promised, then there may be room for an extension of the sunset provision,” Lim told CNSNews.com. “If things go awry, then obviously Republicans would be able to say ‘I told you so.’”
House and Senate Democratic leaders are being pushed towards reconciliation from two directions, Lim said.
“They know they cannot get many Republicans on the public option, but they also know they are going to lose their liberal base if they don’t go for a public option, they are forced into rather narrow band of being not too far to the left while not offending the right,” Lim added.
Ironically, the White House is even thinking of bringing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in for behind-the-scenes politicking on the health bill, Lim said.
“I don’t think they (Democrats) fathomed the depth of antipathy to the possibility of a public option in health care, I honestly don’t think they foresaw this. They thought that it was going to be relatively easy because they had this grand mandate from the 2008 elections,” Lim said.
But Lim warned Democratic leaders not to underestimate the extent of opposition to the public option. Townhall outrage and tea parties have not been ginned up by the opposition, he said, but reflect a huge subterranean split in America that goes all the way back to the founding of the country.
“It’s a fundamental divide,” Lim said. “I think it goes to the heart of America. Think about it – what was the first political debate Americans ever had? It was about the state – how are we going to trust a federal government and how much power are we going to give to it. The health-care debate sits exactly on that tectonic.”
If the Democratic leadership uses the reconciliation process about such a major bill, what then?
“It’s only going to reinforce the conservatives’ and Blue Dog Democrats’ belief that (liberal) Democrats insist on having their way – they are intolerant of alternate conceptions of what the state should look like,” Lim said.
Bauer, meanwhile, predicts that the Obama administration will insist upon using reconciliation.
“These are Chicago machine politicians -- people who are used to playing incredible hardball, of ramming through what they want, no matter the cost.”

Greater Understanding
Do you know the difference between SOCIALISM and COMMUNISM? Did you know that, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ we really DO want the United Order? If you're unsure of any of these terms, I encourage you to read HERE.
I was guided to the original link to that article, but didn't save the link. Because I was unable to read it online (the type was SUPER tiny), I copied and pasted it onto Word. Since I couldn't re-locate the original link, I figured the next best thing was to make a spot for it in my blog and guide you there. ^_^ It is long (I haven't finished the last bit yet), but VERY informative. I mean, it talks about the philosophies (of men) and how they came to be and by what means they may be implemented. Super good information to have in the head when we discuss these things in a calm and peaceful manner with those who disagree with us, but don't completely understand what Socialism is... perhaps.
As a result of the above article, I now have to correct some of my own word use. I'm super happy to have a better understanding of the terms socialism and communism and how they compare and contrast with The United Order by the "mouth" of a prophet. I basically knew that the two former terms were founded in good... theoretically, but in practice are actually the Deceiver's plan manifested because they involve force and control.
The following can be found in a blog that looks like one I'll be reading regularly:
"The town hall uprisings have roused an arrogant, angry reaction from the Obama faction's political and media hacks. It reeks of surprised indignation. 'How dare these people prove more intelligent and feisty than we expected?' they seem to say. Their surprise more and more appears to be the only thing about them that is not insincere; that and their hunger for power."
The following is just one paragraph from: Approaching Zion: Our Glory or Our Condemnation. I hope you will read the whole thing. Much of it I knew, but it helped me understand with greater clarity the sort of superficial knowledge I was already privy to.
"What is this ideal Zion like? In the last days, we are told, it will be a place of refuge in a doomed world. "It shall be called the New Jerusalem, a land of peace, a city of refuge, a place of safety for the saints of the Most High God; . . . and the terror of the Lord also shall be there, . . . and it shall be called Zion" (D&C 45:66-67). At that time, "every man that will not take his sword against his neighbor must needs flee unto Zion for safety" (D&C 45:68). And the wicked shall say that Zion is terrible. Terrible because it is indestructible. Her invulnerability makes her an object of awe and terror. As Enoch said, "Surely Zion shall dwell in safety forever. But the Lord said unto Enoch: Zion have I blessed, but the residue of the people have I cursed" (Moses 7:20). So Zion was taken away and the rest destroyed. Zion itself is never in danger; on the contrary, it alone offers safety to the world, "that the gathering together upon the land of Zion, and upon her stakes, may be for a defense, and for a refuge from the storm, and from wrath when it shall be poured out without mixture upon the whole earth" (D&C 115:6). It would seem that Zion enjoys the complete security of a bit of the celestial world and that nothing can touch it as long as it retains the character. But celestial order it must be. As we have seen, Zion cannot be built up "unless it is by the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom" (D&C 105:5). It must at all times be holy enough to receive the Lord himself in person. "For the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation" (Psalm 132:13); "Behold mine abode forever" (Moses 7:21). Zion is heaven. It is where God lives. A bit of heaven indeed."
And finally, for now...
Have you had any feeling that our President believes he is a sort of savior for our struggling country? I certainly have. And it disturbs me to find a book, paperback, small, the first words of which declare that said book should be born in the pockets of every American, read repeatedly, passages memorized, etc. Do you wonder about this book? It's called The Pocket Obama. You can read the first page (I was referring to it above) and see, for yourself, if I'm exaggerating or not. Please do, in fact!

The Bayer Story
Bayer: a history
http://www.gmwatch.org/gm-firms/11153-bayer-a-history
Bayer AG is a chemical and pharmaceutical giant founded in Barmen, Germany in 1863 by Friedrich Bayer and his partner, Johann Friedrich Weskott. Today it has its headquarters in Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It trademarked acetylsalicylic acid as aspirin in 1899. It also trademarked heroin a year earlier, then marketed it world-wide for decades as a cough medicine for children "without side-effects", despite the well known dangers of addiction.
During the First World War, Bayer turned its attention to the manufacture of chemical weapons including chlorine gas, which was used to horrendous effect in the trenches. It also built up a "School for Chemical Warfare". During this time Bayer formed a close relationship with other German chemical firms, including BASF and Hoechst. This relationship was formalised in 1925 when Bayer was one of the chemical companies that merged to form the massive German conglomerate Interessengemeinschaft Farben or IG Farben, for short. It was the largest single company in Germany and it became the single largest donor to Hitler's election campaign. After Hitler came to power, IG Farben worked in close collaboration with the Nazis, becoming the largest profiteer from the Second World War. Amongst much else, IG Farben produced all the explosives for the German military and systematically looted the chemical industries of occupied Europe. It's been described as the Nazis' "industrial jackal" following
in the wake of Hitler's armies.
During the Second World War, IG Farben used slave labour in many of its factories and mines and by 1944 more than 83,000 forced labourers and death camp inmates had been put to work in the IG Farben camp at Auschwitz in Nazi-occupied Poland. Auschwitz was a vast labour and death camp where more human beings were put to death than were killed in the whole of World War I. It was comprised by 3 main camps: Auschwitz I, a concentration camp; Auschwitz II (Birkenau), an extermination camp in which by 1944 some 6,000 people a day were being killed; and Auschwitz III, which supplied slave labour for the nearby IG Farben plant (Buna-Werke, also known as IG Auschwitz).
IG Farben's Auschwitz plant was a massive industrial complex. The largest outside of Germany, it consumed as much electricity as the entire city of Berlin. Built and run by slave labour, it is thought - at a conservative estimate - to have cost at least 35,000 lives. In 1941, Otto Armbrust, the IG Farben board member responsible for IG Farben's Auschwitz project, told his colleagues, "our new friendship with the SS is a blessing. We have determined all measures integrating the concentration camps to benefit our company." But not only did thousands of slave labourers die from the conditions in which they worked for IG Farben, those camp inmates who were viewed as too sick or weak to continue to labour in the IG Auschwitz plant were selected for the gas chambers. IG Farben paid 100,000 reichsmarks each year to the SS and in return was assured a continuous supply of fresh slave labour, while being "relieved" of unfit inmates.
Elie Wiesel, the writer, Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor, came to Auschwitz in 1944 and was sent with his father to IG Farben's Buna work camp. That same year, the Holocaust survivor and author Primo Levi was among 125 men selected at the railhead for labour at IG's Buna-Werke. One of only 3 survivors from this group, Levi later wrote about his experiences in searing detail: "A fortnight after my arrival there I already had the prescribed hunger, that chronic hunger unknown to free men... On the back of my feet I already have those numb sores that will not heal. I push wagons, I work with a shovel, I turn rotten in the rain, I shiver in the wind, already my own body is no longer mine: my belly is swollen, my limbs emaciated." In Night, Elie Wiesel's acclaimed memoir of his personal experiences of the Holocaust, he describes how veterans of IG's Buna-Werke told those who had arrived there late in the war that the brutal treatment they were experiencing was as nothing to what had
previously been endured by the IG work force: "No water, no blankets, less soup and bread. At night we slept almost naked and the temperature was 30 below. We were collecting corpses by the hundreds every day... Work was very hard... [The gangmasters] had orders to kill a certain number of prisoners every day; and every week selection [for the gas chambers] - a merciless selection."
When it came to "selection", it was an IG Farben subsidiary, with IG Farben managers on its Management Committee, that manufactured and supplied Zyklon B to the SS. This poisonous cyanide-based pesticide, on which IG Farben held the patent, was used during the Holocaust to annihilate more than a million people at both the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek extermination camps. The form of Zyklon B used in the gas chambers was deliberately made without the normal warning odorant. IG Farben also supplied the SS with the Methanol used to burn the corpses.
In 1946 the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal concluded that without IG Farben the Second World War would simply not have been possible. The Chief Prosecutor, Telford Taylor, warned: "These companies, not the lunatic Nazi fanatics, are the main war criminals. If the guilt of these criminals is not brought to daylight and if they are not punished, they will pose a much greater threat to the future peace of the world than Hitler if he were still alive." Their indictment stated that due to the activities of IG Farben "the life and happiness of all peoples in the world were adversely affected." Charges as grave as fomenting war and killing slave labourers were also added. In his opening statement the Nuremberg Chief Prosecutor pointed out that, "The indictment accuses these men of major responsibility for visiting upon mankind the most searing and catastrophic war in human history. It accuses them of wholesale enslavement, plunder and murder."
According to the Nuremberg prosecutors, "We have seen Farben integrating itself with the Nazi tyranny, turning its technical genius to the furnishing of... commodities vital to the reconstruction of the German war machine, and emerging in Hermann Goering's entourage at the highest level of economic planning and mobilization for war. We have seen Farben poised for the kill, and subsequently swollen by economic conquest in the helpless occupied countries. Faced with a shortage of workers, we have seen Farben turn to Goering and Himmler, and persuading these worthies to marshal the legions of concentration-camp inmates as tools of the Farben war machine. We have seen these wretched workers dying by the thousands, some on the Farben construction site, many more in the Auschwitz gas chambers after Farben had drained the vitality from their miserable bodies... Literally millions of people were put to death in the very backyard of one of Farben's pet projects - a project in which Farben
invested 600 million reichsmarks of its own money."
Although the Nuremberg Tribunal indicted 24 IG Farben board members and executives on the basis of crimes against humanity, only 13 received prison sentences. And the sentences they received were described by the Nuremberg Chief Prosecutor as "light enough to please a chicken thief". By the early 1950s a number of those convicted of slavery, looting and mass murder were back at the helm of the very companies - Bayer, Hoechst and BASF, formed out of the assets of IG Farben in 1952. The owners of these "new" companies were also the shareholders of IG Farben. Thus, although the gravity of the crimes committed by IG Farben meant the company was considered too corrupt to be allowed to continue to exist, it was supplanted by its key constituents - companies like Bayer which were owned, and directed at the highest level, by the very same people as IG Farben. Those who had helped Hitler to power and provided the technical know-how for his wars of aggression and the Holocaust, were back in
control of the industry.
The Bayer executive Fritz ter Meer typifies the bounce back. An executive of IG for many years, the most senior scientist on its supervisory board and the chairman of its technical committee, he had become a Nazi Party member in 1937 and was the executive responsible for the construction of the IG Farben factory in Auschwitz, in which tens of thousands of slave labourers met their deaths. Ter Meer's own visits to Auschwitz and the detailed reports he received made it inconceivable that he did not have a clear picture of what was occurring. The Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal found him guilty of plunder, slavery and mass murder. As a result, Ter Meer received the longest sentence of any of the IG Farben board members. But despite being found the most culpable of the men who, in the words of the Chief Prosecutor, "made war possible... the magicians who made the fantasies of Mein Kampf come true", ter Meer was already out of prison by 1952. By 1956 he had become the chairman of the
supervisory board of Bayer, a post he held until 1964. Even today Bayer continues to honour this convicted mass murderer. On All Saints Day 2006, for instance, the corporation is known to have laid a wreath on ter Meer's grave in Krefeld-Uerdingen, Germany. Yet for decades Bayer refused to pay compensation to its surviving slave labourers. Only after international protests did it eventually agree to pay damages - more than 50 years after the end of the war.
Bayer continued to grow in the post-war period, eventually becoming bigger than the whole of IG Farben even at its zenith. Even as part of IG Farben, Bayer had maintained its strength in pharmaceuticals. In fact, scientific experiments had been done specifically on behalf of Bayer in Auschwitz and other concentration camps. IG had footed the bill for the research of Josef Mengele, Auschwitz-Birkenau's infamous "Angel of Death", and some of his experiments utilised germs and pharmaceuticals provided by Bayer. Wilhelm Mann, whose father had headed Bayer's pharmaceutical department, wrote as head of IG's powerful pharmaceutical committee to an SS contact at Auschwitz: "I have enclosed the first cheque. Dr Mengele's experiments should, as we both agreed, be pursued. Heil Hitler." IG employee SS major Dr Helmuth Vetter, stationed at Auschwitz, participated in human medical experiments by order of Bayer. Prisoners died as a result of many of these experiments. Vetter was convicted of war
crimes in 1947 and was executed in 1949 but Bayer's role only emerged later. In the Auschwitz files correspondence was discovered between the camp commander and Bayer. It dealt with the sale of 150 female prisoners for experimental purposes and involved haggling over the price. One exchange notes: "The experiments were performed. All test persons died. We will contact you shortly about a new shipment at the same price." According to testimony by SS physician Dr Hoven during the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal: "It should be generally known, and especially in German scientific circles, that the SS did not have notable scientists at its disposal. It is clear that the experiments in the concentration camps with IG preparations only took place in the interests of the IG, which strived by all means to determine the effectiveness of these preparations. They let the SS deal with the - shall I say - dirty work in the concentration camps. It was not the IG's intention to bring any of this out
in
the open, but rather to put up a smoke screen around the experiments so that... they could keep any profits to themselves. Not the SS but the IG took the initiative for the concentration camp experiments."
In the post-war years Bayer grew to become the third largest pharmaceutical company in the world. In the mid-1980s Bayer was one of the companies which sold a product called Factor VIII concentrate to treat haemophilia. Factor VIII turned out to be infected with HIV and in the U.S. alone, it infected thousands of haemophiliacs, many of whom died in one of the worst drug-related medical disasters ever. But it was only in 2003 that the New York Times revealed that Bayer had continued producing and selling this infected product to Asia and Latin America after February 1984 when a safe product had become available, in order to save money. Dr Sidney M. Wolfe, who investigated the scandal, commented, "These are the most incriminating internal pharmaceutical industry documents I have ever seen."
In the early 1990's Bayer is said to have placed patients at risk of potentially fatal infections by failing to disclose crucial safety information during a trial of the antibiotic Ciproxin. Up to 650 people underwent surgery using Ciproxin without doctors being informed that studies (as early as 1989) showed Ciproxin reacted badly with other drugs, seriously impairing its ability to kill bacteria.
In 2001 Bayer had to recall its anti-cholesterol drug Baycol/Lipobay, which was subsequently linked to over 100 deaths and 1,600 injuries. Germany's health minister accused Bayer of sitting on research documenting Baycol's lethal side-effects for nearly two months before the government in Berlin was informed.
It is thought to have been partly in response to the impact of the Baycol scandal that Bayer bought the rival crop sciences unit of French company Aventis, which had absorbed part of Hoechst, in October 2001. Bayer CropScience was formed in 2002 when Bayer AG acquired Aventis CropScience and fused it with their own agrochemicals division (Bayer Pflanzenschutz or "Crop Protection"). The Belgian biotech company Plant Genetic Systems, also became part of Bayer via the acquisition of Aventis CropScience.
Today Bayer CropScience is one of Bayer's core business divisions, which include:
* Bayer HealthCare: drugs, medical devices and diagnotic equipment;
* Bayer MaterialScience AG: polymers and plastics;
* Bayer CropScience: GM crops and agro-chemicals.
Bayer is the world's leading pesticide manufacturer and the world's seventh largest seed company. Bayer CropScience is responsible for the majority of GM field trials in European countries. Bayer's GM crops are mostly "Liberty Link" - designed to be resistant to its "Liberty" herbicide. Liberty is a trade name for Bayer's glufosinate weedkiller. Together with Monsanto's Roundup Ready crops, Bayer's Liberty Link crops are one of the two main types of GM herbicide resistant crops, but glufosinate is a controversial herbicide. In January 2009, the European Parliament voted to ban pesticides classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction. As a result the permit for glufosinate will not be renewed. A European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) evaluation states that glufosinate poses a high risk to mammals. It is classified as reprotoxic, because of research evidence that it can cause premature birth, intra-uterine death and abortions in rats. Japanese studies show that the
substance can also hamper the development and activity of the human brain. Bayer's systemic insecticide Imidacloprid, sold in some countries under the name Gaucho, and Clothianidin, have also proven highly controversial as they are widely believed to have contributed significantly to bee deaths. There have been calls for these neonicotinoids to be withdrawn as seed dressings for crops that might affect bees, or even for a complete ban on their use. In May 2008 German authorities blamed Clothianidin for the deaths of millions of honeybees, and the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) suspended the registration for eight pesticide seed treatment products, including Clothianidin and Imidacloprid, on maize and rape.
In 2008, Bayer CropScience was at the centre of a huge controversy in the aftermath of an explosion at one of its U.S. pesticide production facilities. A U.S. Congressional investigation found faulty safety systems, significant shortcomings with the emergency procedures and a lack of employee training had led to the explosion which killed two employees. The region apparently narrowly escaped a catastrophe that could have surpassed the 1984 Bhopal disaster. According to the Congressional investigation: "Evidence obtained by the committee demonstrates that Bayer engaged in a campaign of secrecy by withholding critical information from local, county and state emergency responders; by restricting the use of information provided to federal investigators; by undermining news outlets and citizen groups concerned about the dangers posed by Bayer's activities; and by providing inaccurate and misleading information to the public." Bayer CropScience were found to have deliberately removed and
destroyed evidence after the chemical explosion.
Bayer CropScience has been involved in a large number of controversies related to GM crops, perhaps most notably the contamination in 2006 of much of the US long-grain rice supply by Bayer's unapproved Liberty Link GM rice. This caused the U.S. rice industry's worst ever crisis with:
* over 40% of US rice exports negatively affected
* multiple federal lawsuits filed
* trade with the 25-nation EU at a standstill
* other countries banning US long-grain rice imports
* many other countries requiring testing of all imports of U.S. rice
* some markets for medium- and short-grain rice being affected
* another unapproved Bayer GM rice (LL62) also being detected in U.S. rice supplies
* US rice farmers being warned they would never again be able to validly describe their crop as "GM-free".
Tellingly, a key factor in the sale of Aventis CropScience to Bayer was a similar crisis involving GM maize. The Starlink fiasco started when in October 2000 traces of an Aventis GM maize (corn) called StarLink showed up in the food supply in the U.S. even though it only had approval for animal feeds or industrial use. Starlink was not approved for human consumption because the Environmental Protection Agency couldn't rule out the possibility that humans would be allergic to it. The agency's approval had been conditional on Aventis's agreement to keep Starlink from being eaten by humans.
The Starlink fiasco eventually led to a massive recall of over 300 U.S. food brands due to the enormous scale of the contamination. ABC News reported in late November 2000, "In Iowa, StarLink corn represented 1 percent of the total [maize] crop, only 1 percent. It has tainted 50 percent of the harvest." The 'StarLink' gene also showed up unexpectedly in a second company's maize and in US maize exports. United Press International reported, "Aventis CropScience Wednesday was at a loss to explain why another variety of corn besides its StarLink brand is producing the [StarLink] Cry9C protein." U.S. maize exports to big buyers were badly hurt. Federal officials blamed the unauthorized appearance of geneticially engineered maize in the food supply solely on its manufacturer.

Should Parents Have the Right to Raise Their Children?
Apparently (and since I'm new to all this political stuff, you'll have to forgive me for not already knowing this!), the goings on in the highest Court of our Country have caused some legal confusion regarding the rights of parents to raise their own children.
Please click HERE to find out what I'm talking about. And then, as you contact your representatives (specifically Senators) about the general craziness on "Capitol Hill" (like the Health bills as well as ObamaCare), make sure you mention your support for SJ Resolution 16: Parental Rights Amendment. Make sure they know one of their constituents want them to uphold it.
ALSO,
I knew about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. But I recently learned a bit more about it and MAN am I concerned. HJ Resolution 42 (I believe it is the House version of the above SJ Resolution, but I'm not absolutely sure on that yet) aspires to effect an amendment to the Constitution to legally and formally protect the parents of this country regarding their rights as parents.I believe we really need to make sure our leaders do NOT ratify the UN treaty... make sure to read the 20 points (a link in the next paragraph). In it you'll learn, among other things, that the treaty (like any treaty) would supercede the Constitution as the Law of the land in anything NOT specifically mentioned in it... since parenting (and the rights therein to educate [religious or otherwise] our children and care for them as we see fit) is NOT mentioned in our Constitution, basically we, as parents in the U.S. would lose all rights. We would live by the law of the treaty. Given what I'm learning about it, that's NOT okay with me!
The amendment specifies that parents have a fundamental right to direct the upbringing and education of their children, that the government of this country will not interfere unless they can prove a need to do so, and that no treaty may be adopted, nor any other form of international law can be employed to supersede parental rights guaranteed in the amendment.
Still, I'd rather not have to deal with an international quibble, would you? I hope you will read the link above and contact your Congressperson and/or Senator to find out if s/he is already a co-sponsor/supporter. If s/he is NOT, please encourage him/her to become one!
If you would like to stay abreast of this topic, I hope you will check out parentalrights.org because they have a lots of really good info and a simpler way to stay on top of the news regarding this subject. For instance, they have a page devoted to a sort of primer: 20 things you need to know about the CRC (Conventions on Right of the Child).
So, have you read some info? Would you like to DO something to make a difference in keeping our country away from ratification of this amazingly troubling treaty? Well, you can become a 10 and 2 volunteer! "Everyone's doing it." heeheehee Well, perhaps not, but we can really make a difference by helping others learn about this subject. Let's spread the word like wildfire... or grass-roots!!
If you WOULD like to do this, I'll even send you a stamp so that you can send me the $1. Did you read about it? Well, because I DO want to be a 10-2 volunteer, I'm supposed to get 10 people (thus the 10) to go HERE, input their info and then collect $1 (or ask you to donate it via their site) from each to send in to support the grassroots movement that this is growing. If you would like to NOT use your credit info online, I'll send the money in for you after I receive it here. Then, I ask one of you (and/or some other folks) if you would like to do this same thing and become a 10 and 2 volunteer, too (thus the 2). If you want a stamp, you can leave me a comment to direct me to your email or blog and we'll get more info exchanged. Easy peasy!
At the very least, please make sure you know about these two bits so that you can speak out if our Country starts to move in the wrong direction concerning these as it has been on so many other subjects as of late!

Some History and More Information on the GM Stuff
"The GM firms present themselves as operating out of futuristic
laboratories and hi-tech greenhouses in order to provide farmers
with innovative crops with valuable new traits. But in reality,
all the leading GM firms developed out of the chemical industry
and they remain the world's biggest manufacturers of
agrochemicals. The leading GM corporations together control
nearly 75% of the global pesticide market.
...Having operated for many decades as major chemical
corporations, and in the last 20 years additionally as
biotechnology companies, the leading GM firms have a significant
historical legacy. This makes it possible to examine their
records when it comes to issues of public and employee safety
and protection, regulatory compliance, customer care, etc.
This is particularly relevant to the regulation of GM crops, as
it is almost entirely dependent on trust, with regulators
normally basing their assessments of environmental risk and food
safety on data from unpublished studies provided to them in
confidence by the GM firms that developed the crop.
Next we'll look at the corporate character and record to date of
the major GM firms." http://www.gmwatch.org/gm-firms
Stay Tuned! There will be a LONG bit of info on this topic
tomorrow. I hope you will take the time to read it because
it will help you understand why GM is really not a good thing
and how totally connected it is to BAD.
So You Think You Want the Swine Flu Shot?
Worried that this info doesn't pertain to you because it's specifically from/about another country? Please keep in mind that they've purchased ALL of their vax from a U.S. company (I can't remember which right now). Their effects will be ours.

Please Inform Yourself
There are currently bills in the House that, while not specifically mentioning GMOs do relate. And they all (the Bills in the House) tag back to Codex (official site) Alimentarius (good overview of "what's the problem, anyway" type thing). Seriously. No conspiracy theory. It's not conspiracy theory, it's conspiracy reality. And that's the way Gadianton rides.

Gadianton's Group Gone Global
I've been feeling, for a while, that the things going on in the politics of our Country and the world, at large, are connected to our detriment. This article has helped me understand how and why! It's very well written and has such a tremendous amount of information as to make it a resource I will have to read at least once more to gain a better understanding of how Gadianton's Group is working currently in our Country.
I do believe the machinations stretch far beyond our borders. Gadianton's Group is striving, I believe, for the United World Order. Whether or not you believe this is an eventuality (because of prophecy in the Bible or otherwise), I firmly believe that we can stand against it rather than usher it in, if we so choose. Will we be long-sighted enough to see that even though we may be super busy and even overwhelmed with the things in our lives, that our children's freedoms are worth our efforts and greater sacrifices? I didn't at first. I couldn't see out of the cloud of Post Partum Depression I was covered by... but I'm trying now! I hope you will try, too! Doing our best is all we're asked/expected to do.
A couple of posts below this one, I've shared a great link that is a good guide for contacting our Representatives. My Mom, Vicki, made a comment that I think is probably the case for most Representatives (House or Senate). She said that her Rep. prefers phone calls. I think it most likely that phone calls and snail mails carry the most weight... emails are something, but they are (at least they are for me!) more easily put aside.
Also, if you're most interested in reading about my actual life, instead of the political stuff absorbing my thoughts (thus showing most in my blog), make sure to scrolls down to read the post just after this one to read about something that's happened recently. I have a few other pretty big things to write (personal life stuff), but it's going to be another day or two before I can get it up.
Some personal family info... not requiring a whole post...
TEA!
She's crawling away from me. I think I've mentioned this before, but lately she comes to me: when she's hungry, needs a dipey change, is hurt, needs a cuddle, or wants me to entertain her. The last two items are few and far between. She still sleeps with us and nurses often, so I think that fulls up her cuddle quotient. :)
She's cruising (walking along things) like a PRO. I think I've mentioned that before, too, but the newest development there is that she's letting go with one hand. It's so funny... she's SUCH a scardy cat. (Just like me.)
She still loves to play both the real piano and the Schoenhut little one we have (in the laundry room). She waits for and wants me to compliment her whenever she plays either. It's so sweet!
KAT
She's on lesson 13 in her reading lessons (out of 100). She's also pretty darn good at her numbers recognition now.
She also loves to play piano. Hopefully she'll be able to start lessons in a year (or a little less).
She still loves Dance class. Her favorite is still "tap tap".
RIA
She's reading a few series currently. One is the Maddie Mysteries. She likes them all right, but after two more I'm going to give her the option of dumping that series simply because she's not that excited about it. She's also reading Nancy Drew and really enjoys them so far. She's almost done with the Narnia series (she only has one more book left).
Ria LOVES Math. Currently she's confident and competent with her 0, 1, 2, and 9 addition facts (meaning that when I ask her one randomly she either spits out the correct answer immediately or thinks for just a moment before saying the correct answer!). Her time telling is still very slow, but we're taking a break from that right now. She can do it, just takes her a minute to remember the difference between the hours and minutes and all (analog, of course). She decided to tell me how to count by 100s today. She has not be taught that in our lessons! My eldest daughter loves to randomly tell me problems and their answers.
Piano is still an every day activity. On Sundays she loves to make up her own songs for anyone listening (and for Kat to dance along with!).
Dance is going to start back up in a few weeks and she's very excited about another Recital. I'm so happy she enjoys performing so much and is at ease so completely in front of people!
Smart as a whip, wouldn't you say?
The Other Side
Well, along with all the good stuff, we do have our trials! Ria has been resistant about school most days with me. We're working through it, but MAN it's rough. I was recently told that "of course" Ria was a few grade levels ahead of her peers because that was to be expected of homeschoolers who were actually DOING homeschool because the teacher has so much time for the student in the home environs.... Ummm... well, maybe in the imaginary world (or real, even) of OTHER people. I rarely have ANY time to sit down with Ria for school. She does it independently and asks questions only here and there. To be honest, I spend less than 30 minutes per day "doing school with" Ria. And most days it is WAY under 30 minutes. Teaching her to read was labor intensive, but beyond that, it's not been at all. She's making the progress she is because she's just THAT smart!
So, what am I doing? Well, I still have a home to maintain that is a tremendous time drain. There are books to read to make sure they are/will be appropriate for my girls. I have personal study so I can have more information to work with in my effort to become a better mama, person, wife, mother... and so on. Oh, and did I mention I still have a nursling who is about 80% boobie juice fed? Yes. The time I spend nursing is also spent reading, most of the time (since she falls asleep) and I can't stand to not accomplish anything more than sitting while she nurses/sleeps. Oh, and connected to that is the fact that my baby Tea will not sleep longer than 10 minutes off of me. I'm okay with it, most of the time, because it requires me to sit and then I allow myself to get things done that involve my brain more than my body. I also have my church calling, writing, and efforts to be of service outside of my family, and my efforts to make a difference in the crazy political stuff going on lately.
Okay, that's all for today. ^_^
Lessons of Life
Totally works for me because I've wanted to record, in a more orderly fashion, the marvelous miracles Father has manifested in my life since we moved here. If you're interested in participating, check it out and make sure you share that I suggested it to you. ^_^
So, the main reason I'm telling you all that is... I'm going to post my second contribution to the above group. It's all about a miracle(s) I've received recently. Since I wanted to write about it here AND there, I decided to consolidate the work and do it once. It's a bit long. I hope you enjoy it!
So, what, you may wonder, has transpired that has been so wonderful? Well, I will get to that, but first let me give you some background.
You probably already know that our daughters don’t watch TV (as in public broadcast television of any sort at home), but they do get to watch movies after completing homeschool work. Every once in a while they’ll get a “free” movie, but that is more rare than rule. Most of the movies they watch are Disney. My girls love every bit of their movie time. They ask to watch the previews every time they sit down. As long as it’s a video, they get to watch them. One of the ‘previews’ for at least one of their movies is actually a commercial about a little girl’s first visit to Disney’s The Magic Kingdom (you know, the one with Cinderella’s Castle). At the end of the commercial she’s happy to have been, but feeling downcast because she hasn’t “met” someone she really wanted to meet. And then... He appears. Who? Mickey Mouse, of course! And the little girl runs up to him and, throwing her arms around him says, “I’ve been waiting my whole life to meet you,” with a joyous smile spread across her face.
Could you tell I’ve seen that one quite often? If you’ve figured that out, you may wonder: Why? Well, I’ll tell you. I happened to catch the expressions on my daughters faces as they watched that particular ‘preview’ and it just touched me so much that I wanted to watch it over and over... so, of course, I heard the stuff and did watch it a few times so I could see what they were SO focused on. Well, that commercial was probably the reason my girls, Ria and Kat, started asking me when they could go to Disney and meet Mickey Mouse. If I had to put a time frame on when they started asking, I would say it was about 2 years ago (Ria asked and then Kat started asking as soon as she could put the request to words). No problem. I just told them the truth, that I hoped we would go soon, but I really didn’t know... and, really, we might not get there for a long time. That appeased them and they wouldn’t ask again for another month or two (even though they saw the commercial again before they asked again).
Fast forward to a few months ago. I guess Jess put in a movie with that commercial and the girls asked Daddy, “When will we...” and he responded, “Soon!” ARRRGGGHHH! So, the once a month (or every other month) query began coming every few days. And I, the Mama who had to try to bat the questions away without feeling sad about turning my kids away from their “hearts’ desires” became less and less able to feel like a good Mom for growing intervals of time after the question. Finally, after a couple months of that, I answered my girls the same way as always (perhaps with some added comment about how I didn’t know why Daddy had said soon because I didn’t know how we would get there soon). But in my mind I thought something different. Instead of allowing the feelings of BAD MAMA-ness to run rampant, I turned to one of my old (how did I stop) ways of thinking. This old way of thinking included such ideas as: If it’s meant to be, Heavenly Father will make it happen regardless of how likely I think it is. And so, versions of that became my internal mantra.
Within the same month as beginning those reminder thoughts to myself (an effort to make me feel like NOT such a bad Mom), my Uncle Matt called to chat. Now, you have to realize that my Uncle Matt, to my own mind, has always been the older brother I never had, but wanted. If we have sons, our first will be John Matthew (for my Uncle because of said feelings). Anyway, Uncle Matt called to plan a trip. YEAY! He’d said he was going to come visit us soon after we moved here (almost 3 years ago) and Jess and I were excited about it, but then it just didn’t happen. That was okay, but when he said he really wanted to get out to see us soon, I was totally excited.
During the course of the conversation he mentioned some ideas of things to do. I was happy to do anything, just having him visit would be wonderful. And then he asked if we would like to make a trip to Disney while he was visiting. I felt my spirits plunge and said, “Oh, that would be wonderful, but we really can’t afford such a thing.” And what to my wondering ears did he said? “Oh, you wouldn’t have to worry about anything, it would be my treat.” My response: totally uncontrollable tittering (lame laughing that I just couldn’t stop). Seriously.
Uncle Matt asked, “Well, what do you think? Would you like that? Would Jessie be okay with it? How about your kids?”
I finally collected myself enough to tell my Uncle, amid the continued silly titers, that YES, of course we would all love it, if he would want to spend some of his vacation doing that! He said he would. I had to explain to him a little bit about my ANGEL THEORY. So, I did.
The explanation was speckled with silly tittering (because I still couldn’t control my joy) and I told my Uncle Matt that I believed many Angels were people in our lives that did or said things right when we needed them. I went on to explain that my girls had been asking when we would make it to Disney a LOT more often and I’d felt like a bad Mom because I couldn’t tell them what their Daddy had told them and that he, my Uncle Matt, was my Angel to make it possible, this thing that seemed to totally impossible to me!
Fast forward again to picking Uncle Matt up at the airport in
uuummm... ... ...
I tried to understand how to get to where he was, but I couldn’t lasso my brain back in place to catch the right gears for full comprehension. So, I turned to a lifeguard standing near me and asked him to take me where I needed to be. He did. I wasn’t crying, but I couldn’t breathe properly. I remember the lifeguard guy telling me to calm down that everything was going to be okay and thinking, “I’m totally calm, man, you’re not gunna get any better than this with my Man hurt!” Remember... this is ME we're talking about. I was NOT crying!
Jessie was, in fact, sitting up, but looking down because he was holding stuff to the back of his head. He was shivering and super pale. I went in to nurture mode big time. I asked the onlookers for dry towels. Jessie poo-pooed me and someone came to collect him asking if he could walk. Uuuummm... what ‘guy’s guy’ (like Jess) is going to admit that maybe he shouldn’t walk? Not mine! So, he walked until a wheelchair caught up with us. And my Jessie seemed paler.
Perhaps it was then that someone other than me noticed that Jess was SHIVERING because they guy said something about dry clothes. Yes, I had them... elsewhere. He suggested getting them and meeting Jess at the medic’s office because they wouldn’t be able to keep Jess warm. I remember telling him that I couldn’t understand anything he’d just said except 'Medic’s Office' and not being able to keep Jessie warm. I told the nice lifeguard guy that I would just accompany Jess to where he needed to be so I could SEE it and have a better chance of finding it again, if it was all the same to him. It was.
Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Aapostles said, “Be assured that these blessings are poured out equally upon rich and poor alike. As the hymn says, it is “sacrifice [that] brings forth the blessings of heaven,” not the sum of our contributions. Members who freely give a full 10 percent of their annual income receive all of the promised blessings of tithing, whether the amount is a widow’s mite or a king’s ransom. [November 2002, Tithing: A Test of Faith With Eternal Blessings]"
Our tithe is something more than the widow’s mite, but far from a king’s ransom. But even if we paid a ransom, it would not be enough to warrant Father’s outpouring of Love in the various forms and miracles that He bestows upon us. I know that Heavenly Father knows me as an individual. He knows my heart, my needs, my hopes, dreams, wishes, and intentions! I know that he knows us ALL individually, privately, intimately... and He knows us better than we know ourselves! How could it be otherwise? He’s known me since I was an intelligence, after all. Not to mention all through my spirit pre-existence! I just need the reminders, sometimes, it seems. And BOY... Disney from Uncle Matt, an earth-bound Angel and my hubby preserved when he might have been lost to me; WHAT a reminder! Praise to our Loving Father in Heaven for loving us just as we are.
If you've made it through, I hope you will read (or re-read) the quote I have at the top of my blog. I believe it was Elder Holland who said it... something I need to see often and might be helpful to you after reading my story here.
